January 1st, 2010- Jump Outta Bed, Feelin' Fein!

We've all been there. Those mornings when you wake up and can only manage a weak groan and several pleads for help as you ponder the whereabouts of your cellphone and beg someone to bring you Advil and orange juice.

Ah, the hangover. It happens to the best of us. And while almost every culture seems to have some sort of cure to relieve the pain experienced after consuming copious amounts of alcohol, there is in fact, no actual cure. There are however, several beneficial remedies that we here wish to share with our readers (which we compiled after much extensive and brutal research) that we hope will help make the suffering you will surely experience on January 1st, 2010- far more bearable.

1. Water. Lots of it.
With each bottle of VOGA downed, you effectively lose more water than you take in. As your body dries out, bad things happen, including those searing headaches and indecipherable sent-text messages. Drinking water the next morning helps, but it's best to interrupt your bender with a few glasses along the way.

2. Emergen-C
We are huge advocates of this non-caffeinated Vitamin-boost. Non-caffeinated is key, because as good as a double-shot, non-fat latte from Starbucks might sound on those dreary mornings of doom, it will only dehydrate you more, prolonging your hangover. Emergen-C is where it's at because it restores all the vitamins B and C, antioxidants and electrolytes that those cocktails robbed you of the night before. Blend it with 4 to 6 oz. of water and sleep it off and you'll wake up ready to do it all over again.

3. Over-The-Counter Pain Relievers
Everyone has a favorite, be it aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen. These pain relievers can stave off hangover headaches, but they can also do a number on your liver when mixed with alcohol--use sparingly. Our suggestion is 2 Advil's, a banana and a vitamin water.

4. Sports Drinks
You not only lose water when you booze, you also dump electrolytes. These salts and other minerals keep your body functioning properly. Sports drinks like Gatorade help replenish these reserves.

5. Alka-Seltzer
Plop-plop, fizz-fizz, oh what a relief it is. Numerous people swear by alka-seltzer tablets. Pop one before bed, one in the morning, and the fast-acting pain reliever gives you the boost you need to get on with your day.

6. Hair Of The Dog
Legend has it that a morning nip can keep a hangover at bay. But far be it for us to put you on a slippery slope to dependency. Our suggestion: a plate of greasy eggs and bacon, but if you insist on a drink, make it a bloody Mary- tomato juice functions along the same lines as orange juice and helps restores the much needed nutrients your body is lacking.

So remember, when you ring in the new year, do it in style and should you discover any little remedies of your own, drop us a line !!
From all of us here at Cece Feinberg Public Relations: HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Let the count down begin... 2010

The Feinberg team is so excited for the New Year. As we put the finishing touch on our outfits and party plans we came across this adorable new spirit. Most people will be thinking they are toasting the new year with champagne (it is only champagne if it comes from that particular region in France fyi) but in fact they are really toasting with a sparking something or other. That being brought to our attention we found Voga Sparkling Pinot Grigio. This bubbling elixir hails from a prestigious region of Italy known for it expertise in wine. (It’s like Peanut butter and jelly … they just go together.) Voga's Sparkling Pinot Grigio is sure to please even the skeptics. It retails for only $15.99 but is worth it’s weight in gold. The bottle is so chic and screams “drink me!” Voga also does additional wines like a Merlot and a flat Pinot Grigio. Remember to always be classy and cheers to a safe and happy new year!

Eco Friendly Fashion; An inside look at John Hardy's Reforesation Project

The Fein Girls are proud to present you with a new blogging series. Every Monday we will highlight a designer who is making a conscious effort to bring eco-friendly fashion into the limelight.

We kick off the series with Bali-based jewelry designer John Hardy, whose efforts to reduce his company's carbon emissions began before 'going green' was the mantra of the modern man.

The "Wear Bamboo, Plant Bamboo" Jewelry line officially launched in 2006 as part of the company's Sustainable Advertising program, which calculates the carbon emissions associated with the company's print advertising, and plants a corresponding number of bamboo seedlings on Nusa Penida, a small island off the coast of Bali.

One of our Fein Girls has had the special opportunity to venture to Nusa Penida, a two-hour journey via a very small and rickety fisherman's boat through one of the deepest sections of the Bali-Lombok Straight. The only Westerner on the vessel, (not to mention the only blond), our girl made herself comfortable on an uneven wooden plank next to a weathered Indonesian fisherman who was cradling a goat in one arm and spitting betel nut onto the floor by her feet. She recounts the journey as being only mildly terrifying, well aware that the waters she was crossing were largely shark-infested.

Nusa Penida is an island devoid of electricity, plumbing, and pretty much every other type of amenity which defines the western world. It does, however, have incredibly rich in soil--which makes it the ideal location for a large-scale reforestation project.

(And reader, our girl made it there with all her limbs intact)

The idea of sustainable advertising is simple: the company plants thousands of bamboo seedlings of various types to diminish the amount of carbon gases released into the air. So when you purchase a special John Hardy piece from the "Wear Bamboo, Plant Bamboo" Collection you are contributing to the reforestation of an island, the restoration of oxygen levels, and helping decrease the poverty line of an island of rural Indonesian farmers (hello, job creation!)

Makes you feel good, don't it?

Below the John Hardy Kick Cuff planted 17 bamboo seedlings on Nusa Penida, while the Oval Drop earrings planted six and the Slim Ring planted three.

The Urban Shoe Myth

Last Minute Gifts Ideas (all under $20)

With December the 25th rapidly approaching we have a hunch that there are more than a few people out there who are creatively strapped for ideas when it comes to giving a gift or two. Maybe you need something for a friend or cousin, or that co-worker you weren't planning on giving anything to, but then they gave you something so you HAVE to give them something...I know you see where I am going with this...which is why we have a list of last minute stocking stuffers. Fun gifts that are all under twenty dollars and can be construed as either witty and personal, or charmingly impersonal--which would be just perfect for that co-worker.

Let's begin, shall we?

1. Chalk Note Glassware (Pier1.com, $3-$10)
You know that game everyone plays? The which-glass-is-mine-game? Well Chalk Note Glassware puts a delightful end to it by allowing you to write your name on your glass. You can even jot down the name of the wine you're drinking on the carafe.

2. Pashminas (Peachcouture.com, $9.95)
Cashmere is great but we could do without the price tag. And with these pashminas, which, believe us, can be worn with anything, you can have your cake and eat it too! (Just keep it away from the fabric).
3. Dirty Doilie Cards (prettybitter.com, $2.99 or $17.94 for a set of 6)
So maybe these aren't exactly witty, but they are wickedly funny. You can choose from several phrases, including "Die" and "Hot Mess".

4. Time Mugs (timemug.com, $19.95)
Have a friend who is a certified coffee fiend? Well then this insulated Time Mug is perfect! Available in over 15 colors with 4 different style timepieces to choose from, there will never be another excuse for missing that morning meeting...again.

5. The "Taming of the Shoe" Calendar (barnesandnoble.com, $13.99)
Just because there is snow on the ground doesn't mean a girl can't wake-up with open-toed pumps each morning. This Andy Warhol Wall Calendar is whimsical and fun and will keep any fashionista going until Spring.

6. Cocktail Maker Set (Target.com, $19.99)
With this sleek bar set, there will no need to venture out this holiday season. Stay local with your friends and family and shake up a few martinis and cosmopolitans of your very own.
It comes with a shaker, ice tongs, bar knife, waiter's friend, double jigger, and, of course a bottle opener.

7. Deconstructed Cuckoo Clock (kikkerlandshop.com, $19)

Who doesn't like a conversation piece? This clock's intricate detailing looks so pretty i n white and the coral hands give it an unexpected pop of color. And anyway, bath salts as gifts are so cliche.

8. Fashion Print (prismeradesign.com, $20)
Perfect for that girl who has everything.

9. Chanel Nailpolish in Midnight Red (bloomingdales.com $20)
Chic, simple and as classic as a strand of pearls. Trust us, any girl would love this.

10. Cashmere Gloves (kmart.com, $19.99)
These Jaclyn Smith cashmere gloves are not only luxurious but completely within the budget-realm. Perfect for these winter days!

If It's Not Too Much To Ask...

You know the large sack of toys that Santa Claus carries around with him? The one that is filled with Polly Pockets, Ipods and waffle makers? Well, none of what we are about to present will be in said sack. And, if by some chance, any of the items are...we really hope the North Pole took out insurance, because we have a list of the most expensive luxury items of 2009...chump change, really.

1. Handbag: Ginza Tanaka Diamond Studded Platinum Purse - $2,000,000
Designed by a Japanese jewelry maker, Ginza Tanaka, this diamond studded platinum handbag is made of 2,182 diamonds (total of 208 carats) and platinum. The strap can be taken off and worn as necklace or bracelet. It also features an eight carat pear-shaped diamond that can be worn separately as a brooch.

2. Ring: The Chopard Blue Diamond Ring - $16.26 Million
Weighing in at nine carats, the Chopard Blue Diamond Ring is the ring that makes any other diamond ring look bad. Set with an enormous, oval-shaped blue diamond, the expensive ring also has diamond shoulders and an 18k white gold band paved with diamonds.

3. Shoes: Cinderella Slippers by Stuart Weizman - $2,000,000

These Cinderella Slippers by Stuart Weizman have a four and a half inch stiletto heel and are set with 595 carats of platinum set diamonds.

4. Spa Treatments: Spa V at the Hotel Victor - $5,000
Available only to guests of the Hotel Victor in Miami's South Beach. Spa V offers a bath filled with nearly 350 gallons of Evian mineral water then showered with rose petals. The bath is creatively referred to as the Evian Bath and costs $5,000.

5. Watch: 201-carat Chopard Watch - $25 Million
The watch face is somewhere there in the middle, surrounded by 201 carats. This watch-bracelet comes with a trio of heart-shaped diamonds: A 15-carat pink diamond, 12-carat blue diamond and an 11-carat white diamond, all of which open when a spring-loaded mechanism. More than 600 yellow diamonds are sprinkled alongside 91 or so colorless diamonds.

6. Car: The Bugatti Veyron - $1,700,000.

This is by far the most expensive legal street car available on the market today. It is the fastest accelerating car reaching 0-60 in 2.6 seconds. It claims to be the fastest car with a top speed of 253 mph+. However, it has recently been demoted to second place by the SSC Ultimate Aero. No matter about the price though, it remains the first-place contender in that category.

7. Sunglasses: Dolce and Gabanna - $383,609

These brown-tinted shades are framed in gold and have the brand’s logo written on the arms in diamonds. Buyer please note, that if interested they go by their product number: DG2027B.

8. Champagne: Shipwrecked 1907 Heidsieck - $275,000
These hundred year old bottles of Champagne from the Heidsieck vineyard in Champagne took over eighty years to reach their destination. Shipped to the Russian Imperial family in 1916, a shipwreck off the coast of Finland caused this champagne to be lost at sea until divers discovered over 200 bottles in 1997. Now they’re finally being sold—to wealthy guests at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Moscow.

9. Dress: Faisol Abdullah- $30 Million

The Malaysian Designer Faisol Abdullah adorned his gown with 751 premium diamonds weighing over 1,000 carats, all intricately crafted by the renowned Middle Eastern jeweler, Robert Mouawad. Mouawad’s pear-shaped 70-carat diamond sets the focus for the maroon tafetta silk evening gown that also features a majestic 6-meter train.

10. Yacht: Dubai - $350 Million

Owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, the 531-foot Dubai has interiors designed by Philippe Starck, space for 115 guests and 88 crew members, six guest suites and five VIP suites — all with open balconies. Interior spaces are channeled towards a “massive” foyer and atrium that connects each of the mega-yacht’s eight deck.

And last but not least, you will need a destination to show off all these items, right? Why not do so while staying in the most expe
nsive hotel suite in the world?

The Royal Penthouse Suite at The President Wilson Hotel. Geneva
, Switzerland. $65,000 per night.

We hear the suite occupies the entire top floor of the hotel, has bulletproof windows and doors, and is quite popular with international diplomats...

It's A Mad World

It is one of life's great ironies that history repeats itself in a cyclical fashion.

The baby-boomer generation spent much of the 1960s and 70s trying to dissociate themselves from a more restrictive 1950s-society. Today, Generations X and Y, are rebelling as well, but they are doing so by embracing the very symbol of baby-boomer oppression: the necktie.

Recent studies have shown that the today's youth have adopted a style of dressing that stylistically mimics the world of Sterling-Cooper. For all you non-Mad Men devotees, what that means is that, these days the well-off 55-year-old is likely to be the worst-dressed man in the room, wearing a saggy T-shirt and jeans. While the cash-poor 25-year-old is in a sport coat and skinny tie.

Young men are embracing the "Mad Men" elements of style in a way that the older men never did, still don't and just won't. The result is a kind of rift emerging between the generation of men in their 20s and 30s and those in their late 40s and 50s for whom a suit was square and caring about how one looked was effeminate.

So, while the older generation looks at success as being able to dress down, the younger generation defines it by looking sharp. So which is it?

The answer: it does not really matter. What "Mad Men" has done is give an entire generation of men a Carrie Bradshaw-type figure. Don Draper and his pal Roger Sterling embody everything today's modern man hopes to acquire: success, wealth and bourbon.

Don't believe us? American Apparel sells bow-ties...and they sell very well. And stores like Brooks Brothers have actually experienced a bump in sales in a time when most retailers have seen better days. (Brooks Brothers even has a "Mad Men" Exclusive Suit).

So, this only leads to one conclusion: gentleman are making a comeback. And that's just fine with us.

Elementary, My Dear Westwood

In modern day pop culture there are a number of fictional characters who stand as style icons. The wardrobes of these characters have become synonymous with their names, and to generation after generation, their images remain unaging and pristine. James Bond and his impeccably cut dinner jackets come to mind, as does Eloise tearing through The Plaza in Mary Jane's and a pleated black skirt. High up on that list is also Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson.

Deerstalker hats, pipes and monocles reign supreme in the world of the good Doctor and Mr. Holmes, as they have been intriguing fans since 1887 with their intellectual prowess, astute observations and deductive reasoning abilities. But that is not all. London's most famous consulting detective is witty, yes, but he had the wardrobe to match the mind.

One-hundred and twenty-two years later, Jenny Beaven, a famed British designer was given the chance to bring her personal vision of the crime-solving twosome to life when Guy Richie hired her as the head of wardrobe for his 2009 take on the classic character.

The film has not yet been released so we have only taken a gander over the promo-shots and leaked stills, but so far, we like what we see. Beaven seems to have the creative foresight to keep up with Richie's modern-day spin on the Holmes-story. While influences from The Rolling Stones shine through, it is none other than the work of Vivienne Westwood and her new romantic, eighties look that is most obviously paralleled.

Westwood is the reigning queen of new wave fashions, and her panache for reinterpretations of 17th and 18th cloth principles and traditional elements fits in with the world of Sherlock Holmes so perfectly, we kind of wonder how we never saw the parallels before?

New Years Eve; It's All About The Dress

"Look for the woman in the dress. If there is no woman, there is no dress"
Coco Chanel

Dresses are the ultimate form of femininity. Rightly so, because few things are as effortlessly chic as the right dress on a woman. And with January 1st right around the corner, it's time to throw on that dress, pop the bubbly, and give a great big salute to 2010 because it is your duty to greet the new year in heart-wrenchingly fabulous style.

New Years Eve is a time for glitz and glam and getting dolled up; fun make-up, cute shoes, the right clutch...and of course, the right dress. Come on ladies, the dress is essential! So now is the time to begin raiding the stores (or your best friend's closet) for that perfect dress that will make you wish every night could be such a glamorous one.

And that brings us to our next topic: glamour, the theme of the year. The whole 1930s, old Hollywood 'pour me another glass of champagne Mr. Gatsby'- thing is very on point, so we encourage you to indulge your fantasies a bit and play along! Red lips, smoky eyes, and a dark manicure go exceptionally well with some of the season's biggest trends that we are seeing among holiday attire.
Lace, metallics, rich colors, sequins, rosettes and zippers are what it is all about, so go a little beyond your normal borders! Buy that dress, rock those heels! And kick off the new year with a bang, because as Coco Chanel also said: "In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different"
