For those that have been hiding under a rock as of late, Fashion Week in New York is officially over. Though every preview for Spring 2011 from all the hot designers in the industry were absolutely to die for, itʼs now time for a well-deserved fashion breather. With the autumnal equinox in three days, itʼs time to look forward to some fun, fall events!
New York City is a huge melting pot and thereʼs no better place to get a culture fix than here. During the fall season, museums debut new exhibitions and two noteworthy ones opening in September include ʻJapan Fashion Nowʼ at the Museum at FIT and ʻNueva Yorkʼ at El Museo del Barrio. ʻJapan Fashion Nowʼ showcases recent trends in contemporary Japanese fashion from mainstream, to avant-garde, to the underground. ʻNueva Yorkʼ takes a look at the role that Spanish-speaking people played in the history and culture of NYC from the 17th century through WWII. Museums not your thing? There are many festivals around the city - of note, BAM Next Wave Festival (where progressive arts take the stage) and film expositions. Of course, you can never miss the San Gennaro festival in Little Italy since your nose will be smelling the delicious food blocks away!
