1461

Oh, and by the way, that's the number of days that I've been dating the lovely drummer boy.

It's our four year anniversary today. This time four years ago we were sitting at the bar of The Rat and Parrot in Grahamstown, chatting about the night that we first kissed when all of a sudden he asked me the sweetest question.

Happy anneversary Nrt.

I love you.

The weekend that was

Just in case you hadn't noticed it's freezing in Cape Town right now!

Another Monday, another weekend to blog about; this weekend I...

+ Had to wake up at 4:30 am to be on set for a short film.
+ I froze.
+ Spent about 11 hours in Tokai forest.
+ Stayed awake for a full 24 hours.
+ Partied on nothing but lack of sleep (that's right I had not one drink on Friday night).
+ Found out some heartbreaking news.
+ Had to be strong when I felt like I was crumbling.
+ Enjoyed a DVD date night with the lovely drummer boy.
+ Spent a lot of time alone.
+ Got depressed.
+ Felt better.
+ Lost a hamster (Noodle please come back).
+ Spent some much needed family time on Sunday which made my heart feel lighter.
+ Re-realised the healing power of animals.

Phew. Been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. How was your weekend?

Also, don't you agree that this magical hideaway is just so beautiful? I'd love a space like to get away to and just laze and read and listen to music and dance. Wow.

The Baxter Theatre's Taste, Tweet and Theatre Event (number 2)

Ooh I'm excited, I've been invited to the Baxter's second Taste, Tweet and Theatre evening.

I get to take a partner with me (oh, how lucky you are lovely drummer boy) and enjoy a cultured evening tasting wine, snacking on canapes and watching a show at the theatre!

I can't wait! It's this Friday, so at least I won't be stuck at home while the Marja goes to the U2 concert.

Happy Monday everyone!

Oh, and how beautiful is this theatre? I found it here.

welcome Noodle and Japarti

coolest hamms in town
So, it's my birthday tomorrow and the lovely drummer boy being the wonderful, impatient person he is has already given me (part of) my present:

Cue Noodle and Japarti, two of the cutest, engertic, snoozy, warm balls ever to exist.

I love them and I know you would too.

Busy busy busy

Tonight I’m going to the Sketch Assembly exhibition in town at the Michaelis School of Fine Art. Am super excited.

If you’re in and around Cape Town you should come too! Check out the event details on the Between10and5 website here.

Also, a friend of mine is doing his final year at the Silwood Kitchen School of Cookery and he has invited the lovely drummer and I to his final exam. It’s a semi-formal sit-down lunch, and he told me that it’s going to be a psychedelic culinary experience. Erhm, very excited and only a little nervous – as the lovely Se has said before, I’m not the most adventurous palate.

And then it’s off to the Labia on Wednesday night with the lovely Se and the wonderful Meh for our fix of Horrorfest…we’re going to watch MACHETE. I’m the biggest scaredy cat so I hope it’s not too bad…

Are you doing anything interesting this week?

Ps it’s the lovely drummer boy’s birthday this Sunday, I can wait to spoil him with breakfast in bed, kisses and just all-round pampering. Love you drummer boy!

I scribbled

I have a slow internet connection at home, so last night while I was waiting for my Gmail to open i started to scribble and was pretty chuffed with the result.

It's the lovely drummer boy's birthday soon so I want to make him a birthday card and thought a big gorilla would look cool. The other guy was just a doodle. Thanks slow internet!

Obviously it still needs some work and will be on way better birthday-card-paper, but what do you think?

Ps I'm relying on the lovely drummer's lazy online habits so that he doesn't actually see this. Knowing my luck (Murphy LOVEs me even though I've tried to end it with him countless times) the lovely drummer will check today.

Oh well. "Hi lovely drummer boy" ;)

10 things to tell me

Hello lovely people. Happy Tuesday.

I subscribe to the Women24.com newsletter, and the other day the editor (I think?) Sam sent a message to all us Women24-ers that really struck me. She told us about 10 things that she would say to her 17-year old self if they were to meet today.

Now I know that 22 (that's me!) is not that far from 17, but when I sat back and thought about it there were a few things that I would want to tell my younger me, so I decided to share it with her and all of you,

10 Things I would tell my younger me:

1. Not everything is your fault, certain things (a lot of them) are completely out of your control
2. Don't try fit in to find friends, find friends who fit into you and your world (it matters and makes a difference)
3. Just because he isn't around much (the father) doesn't mean he doesn't love you
4. The way you dance, so uninhibited and freely, is so beautiful (you have no idea how beautiful).
5. Never lose your easiness to talk to and meet new people.
6. If you love it, don't be too scared or shy to embrace it and go after it.
7. This is the most free you'll ever be, just enjoy it.
8. Your love of animals is NEVER going to leave you, maybe think about doing something with them as a career.
9. Mixing your foods (ie letting your rice touch your cauliflower, heaven forbid) is NOT the end of the world.
10. You're going to find him, and he is going to love you and make you feel like the most important and amazing person on the planet (thank you lovely drummer boy) sooner than you think.

What things would you tell your younger, beautiful and sometimes timid self?

Sharky

*yay* I was involved in helping the lovely drummer boy with his band's album launch campaign recently.

For me this was a real treat as I love being involved in creative projects where lots of cleverly creative people get together and be creative and drink lots of lovely, luscious wine <-Yum

The theme was "Shark" and after hours (and hours and hours and hours) spent cutting styrofoam, painting shark shapes and making sure all the little bits of delightful decor was in its place or on its home the end result was exactly that: Result!

The Assembly looked incredible and throughout the night of the launch I overheard people commenting on the jagged-tooth bite marks out of the records, and watched drunk young girls in belt-sized skirts posing with the cheesiest grins inside the photo-booth shark mouth, I also saw more than a couple of people walking around with a styrofoam shark under their arms merrily spilling their drinks on themselves.

Ah what a night. It felt so good to work so hard and then see the result being just super awesomeness! We really were a great Sharky team!

You can see the pics here on 10and5.

Muizenberg's Labia Museum

Yesterday I spent the entire glorious day in Muizenberg.

It was a gorgeous day, perfect for my out-of-office mission: interview and take photos of the Muizenberg community for subsequent journalistic scribbling (see: furious typing) by me for our the travel blog that I write for.

The lovely drummer joined me midday and we, hand in hand, explored the nooks, streets and surf shops that make up the Muysenberg area. We ate a perfectly vegan meal at Closer and then ascended the steps of the Natale Labia Museum.

Wow.

What a beautiful building! There are a few rooms set up as a museum displaying the most decadent writing desks, ornate vases and luxurious chandeliers, and then there is a perfectly gorgeous dining area where you can have lunch or even a dinner and piano concert (note to lovely drummer boy: i *want*) and then upstairs is my favourite area. It's an art gallery with the most calming open spaces and stunning views.

I felt like royalty as we stood on the top floor balcony, looking out over Muizenberg beach and had to fight the urge to stick my nose in the air, look down on the 'commoners' below and wave very slowly with just a turn of my wrist.

I wish I could have a room like this one in my house one day - so clean and clear of junk and stuff and things - just a room.

Afterwards the lovely drummer and I got a dvd out, I let him choose and regretted it - he loves cheesy, B-Grade Sci-Fi - note to you lovely readers: Do *not*, I repeat, do *not* watch Mutant Chronicles. Ever

Ps Tonight a few friends are having a dinner at the lovely Se's place. We're each supposed to bring some veggie snacks to share. Help! Any Idea?

Also, I'm feeling really happy today so I hope you all have the most wonderful day! Smiles, smiles, smiles

Thank You.

Feeling Better Today

For the past couple days (weeks? months?) I've been feeling a little (actually a lot) frustrated and stuck. Things sometimes happen so quickly in your life (and sometimes too slowly) that it all gets a bit much.

This past week has been a bit of a bad one, but in true Shiny-Armoured Knight style, the lovely drummer boy came to my rescue. He took me out for a quiet dinner for two & a movie lastnight. It's amazing how much the little things like spending time with your best friend/closest companion can make you feel all safe and on top of things again.

*Thanks* lovely drummer boy, I love you

The Weekend That Was

Photo from here.
Wowee, what a busy, rollercoaster ride of a weekend.

Friday I visited the Grand Parade Fan Park in Town to visit the City's Environmental Program Expo and wow what a structure they've managed to create! Then after having a necessary nap I put my little white heels on to head off into the night with my girly friends for a Deco Dance extravaganza! I love that this quirky and decadently decorated place plays the good old stuff, taking us on a tour through the 60s, 70s, 80s and landing us, shoes flung from our feet in the cheesy 90s!

Saturday night saw (who actually sees these things? is someone watching us all?) my friend and I braving the moody and relentless wind to explore Longstreet. We hopped (or shall I say struggled against the torrents) from Neighbourhood to an unbelievably packed Julep and ending up at Cape to Cuba where I hesitantly tasted my first ever chilli popper (I'm a slow mover ok!). Needless to say, despite the fact that I almost choked, my eyes were watering and I had to go to the bathroom to wipe away the incessant tears (apparently only CapeToCuba leave the seeds in) I'm a dedicated fan to poppers (Yum). Then we headed on down to Assembly to watch the boyfriend bash his drums onstage.

Sunday, after dropping off mom at the airport (bon voyage) so she can jet set off to Grahamstown for the fest, lovely drummer boy and I went home and crashed at his for some desperately needed nap time. Upon awakening we were treated to an amazing Sunday lunch that let us too full for words let alone dessert.

Photo from here.

I've learnt that I love waking up next to lovely drummer boy, and coming home with him to an empty flat for the next three days. Luckily I had Monday off ♥
