Dare to Be Different... it works for La Roux
This past September, New York’s fashion week was an exhibition of endless inventiveness; the city’s inhabitants flooded the streets with a colorful display of originality. We love everything from the leopard prints and brass buttoned jackets, to the mixing and mastering of pattern combos. This year’s trends expose a beautiful and delicate balance between ultra feminine and masculine looks.
If you’re curious to see someone who is the queen of blending the lines of gender, it is our pleasure to introduce you to musician and fashion icon Eleanor Kate Jackson, lead singer of La Roux. La Roux is an English electropop and synthpop duo, that’s named after Jackson’s red-haired boy-like appearance; la rousse (feminine) and le roux (masculine) are French terms for “red-haired one.” The band’s look is as unique as their sound; lead singer Jackson is celebrated for her awkwardness that can best be described as both beautiful and brilliant. Individualistic in her ways, her androgynous clothing and gravity-defying hair style are just part of why we love her so!
This 22 year old expresses her utter disappointment with the “normality” of fashion trends common amongst other musicians; she coins “Ikea mentality”, to identify the obsession with everyone wanting to look the same. Jackson believes that real fashion is the result of individual expression in its most unique and TRUE form! Impeccable in her style, it is common to see Jackson in slim fitting pants and colorful blazers accentuated by her flaming red do.
As the magnificent, menswear loving Coco Chanel once said, “in order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.”
Want to check her out?
On November 17, 2010 La Roux will be performing in midtown Manhattan @ Terminal 5, located at 610 West 56th Street. This is your chance to see the rebel in action!
Xoxo,
