Fein Famous! History Captured and Shared

In honor of one of our very own Fein Girls, we would like to pay homage to her esteemed relative: the very famous photographer, Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Born in 1908, our Girl's great uncle was the 20th century's leading photojournalist.

Beginning with his creation of an underground photography unit during the World War II French resistance, he captured historic events and conditions of life around the world. He was also famous for his photographic portraits of the world's most famous people (Gandhi, Sartre, Matisse). Among several books of his collected photographs, the best-known is The Decisive Moment (1952).

More to the point, Bresson, along with Robert Capa, George Rodger, David Seymour and William Vandivert founded the Magnum Photo Agency in 1947.

The agency and its archives feature work from all of it's founders and is considered one of the most valuable photograpic archives of our time. Today the New York Times chronicles the recent shipment of more than 180,000 prints from the legendary agency to University of Texas at Austin, where they will be available for both study and exhibition for the next five years.

It will be the first time that the archive will be accessible to scholars and the public.
