Idol Worship

The Perfecto Motorcycle jacket has been around for quite some time. More so than that, it has dominated its category as the go-to item for punk rockers, rebels and fashion forward patrons alike.

An American icon made famous by Marlon Brando, James Dean and punk rock pioneers The Ramones, it was first introduced in 1928 and immediately made waves by being the first of it's kind: a double style leather motorcycle jacket which was named after creator Irving Schott's favorite Cuban cigar.

Red hot after it's release, it catapulted into that rare white-hot category after being worn by Brando in 1953's The Wild One. Since then, numerous companies and fashion brands have imitated its short fitted silhouette, zippered sleeves; collars with snaps and classic belt. However, what made it especially wanted was its price tag-- at $365 it is both authentic and affordable, perhaps out of reach to some, but not incredibly so. To wear one was to make a statement without saying anything at all.

Now, finally, there is the women's Perfecto- made by hand on the same turn of the century machines as the men's, the jacket (worn by a greased-up Blake Lively on the February cover of Esquire) continues to rock the fashion world. And while it continues to be imitated by big name brands, it is the real deal and will not make a huge dent in your checking account (unlike Balenciaga's $2,600 biker-jacket).

As Jason Schott, the company’s C.O.O. and Irving’s great-grandson, impeccably put it: "Not everything made in the U.S.A. has to carry a luxury price tag.”
