Congratulations CFDA Class of 2010!

The council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc, (CFDA) has announced 26 new additions! Every spring, prospective members must contact the CFDA and apply as American citizens or foreign nationals with business based in the US. This not-for-profit trade association consist of hte world's top creative talent in womenswear, menswear, jewelry and accessory design. Director Steven Kolb said of this year's new members, "The class of 2010 is a talented mix of creativity and we are please to welcome the designers into the CFDA family."

Here are our top 5 picks! Congratulations class of 2010!

Waris Ahluwalia of HOUSE OF WARIS – Waris Ahluwalia is a New Yorker and self proclaimed hipster who you may recognize from ‘The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou’. He has created jewelry we can’t help but covet. Waris found his inspiration in the romance and beauty of Rome. His fresh designs, inspired by the history of India and Italy combine incredible craftsmanship with methods of the Old World, creating a completely unique look we love!

Steven Alan – After graduating from the University of Southern California in 1989, Steven opened the first STEVEN ALAN store in New York City in 1994, which carried a variety of women’s clothing and accessories bands. Since then he has created a men’s line and barber shop, and is most recently working on the launch of a handbags collection set to launch this year. These are some of our favorite items from the website!

Pamella DeVos of PAMELLA ROLAND – After graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in business, Pamella built an extensive professional background in marketing and public relations. Pamella began the latest chapter in her life in 2002, when she started her clothing design business, PAMELLA ROLAND. In addition to her role as Owner/President of the company, Pamella also plays a definitive role in creating and designing each piece, with the final say on shapes, fabrics, colors and function. The collection has received numerous honors, including the Gold Coast Award in 2003. These drool-worthy looks are from the fall and spring 2010 collection.

Kimberly McDonald – Kimberly, an environmentally conscious nature lover, has translated her love of natural world into her breathtaking jewelry line. A North Carolina native now based in New York City, she has created an entire collection using natural and organic materials such as agates and geodes, complimented by natural/untreated fine materials such as diamonds, raw emeralds, and baroque pearls. Kimberly’s commitment to honoring nature is further underscored by her use of reclaimed gold and wood, and recycled diamonds and other precious stones. This is our favorite kind of ‘going-green’. Can YOU resist?

Bibhu Mohapatra – Having shown interest in fashion from an early age, Mohapatra has found his inspiration in his native Indian state of Orissa. His love of the sumptuous fabrics and vibrant colors are the inspiration behind his elegant designs. These looks from the Fall and Spring 2010 collections are absolutely divine!!

In October, CFDA Board of Directors member Vera Wang will host a party in her home to welcome the new Members. We’re jealous.

XOXO
