Art update: The Impossible Project

Do you remember what instant film meant before the digital age? Whether you had one of your own or were encouraged to 'shake it' in Outkast's hit song 'Hey Ya', Polaroid cameras and the pictures they take bring out the artist in all of us. So, when Polaroid announced in 2008 that they were stopping the production of instant film, the photography world clamored for the rescue of this retro form of art. As of 2010, the 'most fun form of photography ever' has found its savior: Austrian artist and business man Florian Kaps, founder of The Impossible Project.

To start this revival, Kaps and a group of passionate Polaroid users leased the last instant film production plant in Enschede, NL. They then hired a team of film chemistry experts and began re-inventing and re-producing new instant film. More information on the project can be found on their website.

Polaroid also announced Lady Gaga as the creative director of the revived form of film. The eccentric superstar has taken the project to new artistic heights, producing a set of black and white Polaroid portraits, and including Polaroid photographs in her ‘Telephone’ music video. She recently donated her Polaroid portrait to the MIT museum. We love it!

She has, in her own words, "been developing prototypes in the vein of fashion/technology/photography innovation, blending the iconic history of Polaroid and instant film with the digitial era."

Too Cool! We hope you get a chance to try out this photo fun for yourself!
XOXO,
The Fein Girls
