When we use the term couture, we don't take it lightly. Just because it says “couture” on your velour jumpsuit, does not mean that is what it is. With that said, Paris Haute Couture is the real deal! French for "high sewing" or "high dressmaking", these classy styles and extreme attention to detail continuously take our breath away year after year.
This past week, all the big-name designers and stars strutted their stuff on and off the runway, setting the fall/winter fashion trends. Celebrities such as Milla Jovovich, Jessica Alba, and Leighton Meester were all dressed to impress, while models showed off the designer's new exquisite creations.
Bouchra Jarrar, one of Paris' newer names, worked like a surgeon with a scalpel, in a precision-cut collection, executed in cream, navy and black, with flashes of gold. Riccardo Tisci showed a small and exquisitely formed collection in a famous Paris Mansion. Although there were only ten pieces, they were "a perfect 10".
Alexandre Vauthier is currently one of the "hot" names on the Paris couture scene, with Rihanna and Madonna leading the fan club for his molded-to-the-body, sci-fi silhouette. And one of our favorites, the Majextic collection from Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld unfolded without so much as a hint of black! But while the models were covered in sequin-sheath dresses and cropped jackets, and traced figure eights around a several-story high gold lion, it was Lagerfeld who took the crown as "king" of the couture jungle.
