It’s been quite the game of musical chairs these past weeks in fashion publishing. Major shakeups and movements in the editorial world of the fashion glossies have ruffled some feathers, raised eyebrows (well, the non-botoxed ones anyway) and made more than a few sit up and take notice. Expect the front row of New York Fashion Week to look markedly different come this September.
Here’s a rundown of some of the noteworthy migrations in the world of fashion journalism:
VOGUE
Sally Singer has left her position as fashion news/features director at Vogue to become the Editor-in-Chief of T: The New York Times Style Magazine.
T: The New York Times Style Magazine
Stefano Tonchi jumped ship as Editor-in-Chief of T to become the Editor-in-Chief of W. Since beginning his reign at W in March, personnel changes and layoffs have had a major ripple effect all the way down.
Anne Christensen has resigned from her post as fashion director to continue her career as a freelance stylist.
W
Julie Belcove (deputy editor), Treena Lombardo (market director), Brooke Magnaghi (accessories and jewelry director), Dana Wood (senior fashion features editor), and Lauren Schrade Kill (assistant editorial manager) have all departed W Magazine.
Glamour
Xanthipi Joannides has retired from her full-time position as fashion director to focus on her freelance styling projects.
Jill Herzig left her post as executive editor to assume the role as Redbook’s new Editor-in-Chief.
InStyle
Eve Bercovici, formerly the senior beauty director of InStyle, has been appointed the new executive beauty director at Redbook.
Lucky Magazine
Meredith Rollins has left her post as executive editor to assume the same at Redbook.
Danielle Pergament, formerly a freelance writer for Lucky, has been named executive editor of the shopping magazine title.
New York Magazine
Jody Quon has left her post as photo director at New York to join W as its new creative director.
Rumors
- Anna Dello Russo, Editor-at-Large for Vogue Japan, is rumored to be the next fashion director at W after being spotted in the hallways of Stefano Tonchi’s office.
- Meredith Melling Burke, senior market editor at Vogue and longtime Anna Wintour favorite, is said to be Sally Singer’s top choice for market director at T.
- Kate Lanphear, Elle style director, is reportedly in talks with Glamour Editor-in-Chief Cindi Leive about filling the seat vacated by Xanthipi Joannides as fashion director.
The upcoming September issues should be interesting to see. Check out the mastheads the next time you open your fashion magazines. You know we are.
