Fashion Travels: Destination VA

Fashion roads, take me home to the place I belong, Virginia... fashion week? Virginia's fashion week proposes a chance for "commonwealth designers take a run at fashion's big leagues." But should the hodgepodge of home-grown labels be asked to leave the runway? Sponsors Bally Total Fitness, Splash Model Management, and the Hot 100.5 are seeing it through its third year, taking place at the end of this month from October 25th through the 31st, so there must be something to these downhome designs!

North Virginia also holds a fashion week, which will take place in 2010 from February 21st through the 27th, a highlight of which is the student designer competition in which two teams of 1 to 4 students from each of the local fashion institutes: West Potomac Academy Fashion Design, The Art Institute and Marymount University, are invited to compete.

So what do they wear in Virginia, anyway?? Native Virginian designers like April Spring, creater of the "foxer," a cross between a lacy panty and boxer short, and other whimsically updated country classics, and Adamas Fashion House Casual Urban Wear and Icarus Clothing Urban Street Wear show that local Virginian style really runs the gamut. It may not be your style, or mine... but a little trashy, a little sassy, and sometimes classy... maybe there's something for everyone!
