Trend Alert: Aviator Caps!
But other than those spicy frames, I never really explored the other wonders of an aviation wardrobe, which is why I find myself pleasantly surprised by the surfacing trend that is aviator caps.
Now, we urge you all to resist your immediate reaction to reel back with distrust, and breathe. Because, when done right, they are quite cute. And there is true credibility behind them. For the Hermès fall collection, Jean Paul Gaultier accompanied each look with a cap and a pair of goggles, and word on the street is that despite the $840 price tag, they sold out. Same with Alexander Wang, whose leather cap with attached cape did quite well at Opening Ceremony last spring when they had an easy price tag of a cool $1,925.
Of course, if you want to be authentic, you can always go for the real deal and purchase either the handmade sherpa-lined cap at U.S. Wings, or the unlined version, dubbed "Snoopy" for $33.95

Valentino....eh?
The word has been: "cool" but alas, "trying too hard". And while we guess we see their point, it has to be pointed out that Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli have the monumental task of revamping the entire label, while at the same time respecting the brand's heritage.
No easy feat- and after Alessandra Fachinetti's very sudden dismissal from the label, can you blame them for wanting to play it a little bit safe?
We think this collection is certainly a step in the right direction, and we are even on board with the whole, Garden of Eden-thing, but is it just us, or does the hair and make-up just not seem to entirely go with the clothes?
Maybe it's just us, maybe we've gone a little loony this afternoon due to excess diet cokes and sugar-free gum chewing, but something minor seems off.
What about you guys? Do you love it? Hate it? Do you think we're horribly, horribly wrong? Or injustifiably right?
Let us know!

In a Word: Spectacular
Set to mariachi music, the show began with denim and dark suits, but shortly thereafter erupted into a couture color sensation.
“I saw the Avatar and, like everyone, found it extraordinary. And from there I began thinking of nature and ecology, and the Latin American tropics; and from there it was not very far to Mexico,” explained Gaultier, this morning.

News Alert: No LBDs at Chanel!
Lagerfeld dubbed the collection “neon-baroque”- we find it very Madame Bovary meets Brave New World, and we like this world; especially since there was not a single clog in sight!

Want it: Sweaters by Jim Drain
A RISD-grad and 2005 winner of the Baloise Art Prize, has a true knack for knitwear. Drain began using his pal's sewing machine in 1998 upon graduation, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Drain has cited the meditative repetitiveness what he finds most enjoyable in knitting. As well as its end results: hard messages couched in softness; which is the perfect description of his latest items.
After a collaboration with Green Naftali, three Jim Drain sweaters are now being sold exclusively by Opening Ceremony (check the NYC window display) at their New York, Tokyo and L.A. Stores.
Design is limited (1o of each) so if you are having a little SJP "I had to have it" moment going on, hurry up and skidaddle your way on over to www.openingceremony.us
We have to have it!!

Masculinity Reigns at Gucci...We Approve!
For the 2010 winter collection, Frida Gianni took the house back to roots and what followed was an impressive display of classic cool. While other Italian houses are still making bold statements, Gianni seems to be taking the more nostalgic route and reinventing the past with camel-colored coats, impeccable tailoring and of course, loafers.
The flash was minimal but the splash was big. For too long the major houses have been trying, trying, trying in vain to invent something big and exciting in the world of men's fashion. Those attempts at new and fresh were in fact, tiresome and dull. They seemed to forget that at the base of it all, a man is a man. They underestimated the power of a good suit.
What Gianni sent down the runway was electrifyingly great simply because of its simplicity.
The collection's innovation was born out of the house's timeless pieces, and menswear has been returned to it's rightful owner...men!
Can we put away the fur dresses now?
