Luck Be Not A Lady

Maybe it's time to push that floral pattern to the very back of your closet because the word of today's generation of heel stomping, fashion worshipping women, is that the whole damsel-in-distress thing is Out.

So we ask you all to close your eyes and think about it. The street style we've been witnessing as of late has featured an awful lot of motorcycle boots and military jackets (I myself am guilty).

So what gives with the whole armored look we all have been craving? Has women's wear become men's wear?

Shapeless T-shirts, combat boots and aviator caps are all over runways, often accompanied by leggings and bicycle shorts. And, as the ultimate sign of mainstream acceptance, stores such as Top Shop and Forever 21 are now carrying a plethora of biker jackets, leather vests and calf-clutching jeans.

It seems as though the world now has a great deal more rebels without causes.

But as baby doll dresses are being repeatedly swapped for studs and tailored blazers, you have to wonder what does the broad-scale female acceptance of a pointedly aggressive, street-smart style suggest? We here blame it on the economy. Fashion is the ultimate form of self-expression; a tougher look mirrors the attitude of the America that is today. That dress codes are no longer an expression of gender reflects a changing society; one where we are all well dressed and along for the ride.
